ABOUT ME

            Dr. Kevin O. Davenport. has spent 30 years in music education. He is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Tennessee State University, and a Master of Arts degree in music education from Hampton University. In addition, He holds an Educational Specialist degree in educational administration and supervision from Tennessee State University, and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Tennessee State.
            Dr. Davenport has taught at all levels of band, from elementary through college, including ten years as Director of Bands at I.C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, Virginia, his alma mater. While there, he built the marching band program from thirty- two members to two hundred, in a school that only had six hundred students. During his ten years there, the band won one hundred and twenty awards, including ninety-eight first place trophies. Most of his students went to college on band scholarships.
            Over the past twenty years, he has designed halftime shows for Tennessee State University, Hampton University, Morgan State University, Kentucky State University, eand the Washington Redskins Marching Band, each design original and tailored for the band that performed it. He has mentored many high school band directors, trying to help them develop a philosophy and vision for building the program they want.
            In addition, Dr. Davenport served as Associate Director of Bands at Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was the professor of Music Education for both undergraduate and graduate courses. While teaching these classes, he concentrated on teaching his students the practical elements needed to be successful in the everyday activities of being a band director.
            Dr. Davenport is currently the Director of Fine Arts at Manna Bible Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland.
